They are still valued by many tribal peoples today. Large quantities of various sizes available if required. Each cowrie shell is slightly different.

Description: In Africa, India, Southeast Asia and China, cowrie shells have been traded and used as currency and for decoration for at least 2000 years. They are still valued by many tribal peoples today. Cowries without backs can be sewn onto cloth, leather etc by attaching them top and bottom with thread. Large quantities of various sizes available if required. Each cowrie shell is slightly different.

Tips: Cowries can be used to decorate the hems of skirts, the cuffs of jackets, the brims of hats, for belts and necklaces, for the borders of cushions or throws, or attached to the ends of silk or cotton cord to form decorative tassells for use on the corners of cushions etc.
Description: 'Shisha' are tiny mirrors sewn to a textile with embroidery. They used to decorate costume, bags and cushions in Sindh, Pakistan, and in India, especially in Rajashtan and Gujarat, and also by Banjara communities. The machine embroidery on these 'shisha' is a little crude but they are funky and fun, it's possible to embroider over the machine embroidery with your own thread. Only available in white or yellow - click on the 'Options' box to select colour.

Tips: Sew the 'shisha' as they are in strips, or cut them off the band and sew them on one by one. Traditionally 'shisha' were sewn onto their fabric backing in silk thread on with a neat blanket stitch
